map for Yakima Valley Wineyards
The dominant features of South Central Washington include the
Yakima Valley, the Yakama Indian Reservation and the
Washington
side of the
Columbia River Gorge.
From the rich volcanic soil of the Yakima Valley has sprung
Washington's Wine Country. The more than 45 wineries here share the same
latitude as Burgundy and Bordeaux in France and produce world-class
wines.
Most of the wineries are easily reached as they lie on either side of
Interstate 82 between the cities of Yakima
to the north and
Richland to the south.

The area is a rich agricultural resource with abundant crops of apples,
peaches, pears and other crops as well as hops and many vegetables.
A good portion of South Central Washington is comprised of the Yakama
Indian Reservation.
Mount Adams, whose eastern slope lies on the reservation, is the
spiritual and physical landmark of the Yakama Nation.
To the south is the mighty Columbia River and the scenic Columbia River
Gorge. The several cities and towns on either side of the Columbia River are
rich in heritage and feature fine foods, relaxing lodging accommodations and
a variety of recreational opportunities.
