Herning history
Herning is in many ways an atypical Danish provincial town mainly because the city has sometimes had an almost explosive growth. The city's first courthouse was built in 1827 and there was virtually nothing at the time. In the following years were built pharmacy, tavern, medical center o. Etc., but we must be about half a century farther before that really happened. In 1877 the city will be connected to the outside world by rail and then it goes really fast. The development takes place mainly around the main street Broad Street-East Street, which included hotels, shops, homes, church and new courthouse (the town's third). The textile industry also developed rapidly in recent years, something that would come to characterize the area for many years. This building boom continued until the beginning of World War 1 in Herning, which incidentally also had the status of Market Town (1913). Especially two men had great influence on this development: Murermester Rønnow, who built many buildings in the main street and threw Poul Andersen, inter alia, brought marketplace and built Herning Clothing Factory and Hotel Herning.
Until 1940 it was still a relatively small area within the city evolved. The first major development outside this area was floor residential neighborhood Fruehøj with Sct. John Church. Up in the 1950s and 1960s, large residential neighborhoods, housing developments and public institutions listed, and it was also during these years Herning got his first exhibition halls. They were the Herning Conference Centre today at home (Exhibition Centre today moved into the city's south-west). This rapid development has also caused several fine buildings over the years, including "School home" was demolished were in 1970.
Here, a few years after the city has passed its second century of change, continue development. Over the past year included significant construction projects such as Queens Corner, Heart, DGI house and and Denmark's first multi-purpose arena, Jyske Bank BOXEN, and more are coming. Herning in recent years are also connected to the European road network, with the major highway construction is currently being built. The city's motto "All possibilities are open" seems to match well with this city where no vision is too big.
