Bornholm is part of the old Danish heartland Scania countries, and is the only one that today is Danish.

Bornholm has the shape similar to that of a parallelogram, where the north and south coasts are about 40 km, while the east and west coast is approximately 30 km; circumference is 141.4 kilometers. The former Bornholm Railways old lines are designated as bicycle lanes and winds through the terrain with slight increases. Christiansø & Frederiksø. Visit the world's first naval base and an impressive fortifications from the 1684th

Ertholmene lies and lures on the horizon northeast of Bornholm. The archipelago consists of two inhabited islands, Christiansø and Frederiksø and bird sanctuary Græsholmen and a number of larger and smaller inserts.
From being a collection of desert rock tubers, sticking out of the sea, the islands changed for today to be a popular destination for /Provence?s.
It all started in 1684 when the Christian V (1670-1699) ordered that there should be built a fortification to Navy ships in the Baltic Sea. At the peace in Roskilde 1658, Denmark had lost Skåne, Halland and Blekinge, it was necessary to control the Swedish fleet movements in the Baltic Sea. On Ertholmene was a natural harbor between two of the islands. Here was built the fortress Christiansoe/Ertholmene, the world's first naval base. First built the two distinctive towers, St. Tower on Christiansø and Small Tower on Frederiksø.

On both islands were built bastions and curtain wall facing the open sea. Well shielded behind them lies the fortress many other buildings. An impressive building, which was worked on throughout the fortress time. In the harbor, the Danish Navy ships seeking protection, fetch water and provisions as well as repairs to damage during their voyages in the Baltic Sea. In 1855 the fortress was Christiansoe claims. The time had run from the kinds of defenses. But it is still there, intact and tells a piece of Danish cultural history.

In the old castle courtyard at the entrance to Hammershus you will find the very informative Hammershus-Exhibition of Northern Europe's largest castle ruin - Hammershus.

Hammershus-exhibition tells in words and pictures Hammershus, which was built by the archbishop of Lund in the early 1200s. Here you will also find several models of the entire fortification and many details of the castle. You can also try on armor - but hold on, it's heavy!

From sea silver to gold. In the old museum smokehouses in Hasle will vi vidly being told about the Bornholm herring smokehouse history and showcased the old herring smokehouses. We see the historic environment and shows how the herrings are smoked with real wood and the finished result - the golden smoked herring. From the German herring market in the Middle Ages to a vibrant city with many smokehouses - and the time of day with the problems of the Baltic Sea fisheries. Obviously tell about the reason for the name "Sun over Gudhjem". There is a smoked herring on rye bread with an egg yolk. It can of course also be purchased at the restaurant here - but called for "Sun ower Hasle".
