Holbaek is a town on the fjord and is located in North Zealand, approximately 60 km from
Copenhagen. With its 26,942 inhabitants (2014), the North West
Sealand's largest city. The city is the capital of Holbaek Municipality and belongs
to Region Sealand. Holbaek is grown up around the former Holbaek Castle, which was founded in 1236 by Valdemar and the town became a town in 1287. About the name, there are two theories. Either it is a rewrite of "The cave creek," referring to the stream which in the Middle Ages ran through the city, or it is "the holy brook". In fact, the end of a small creek west of the harbor with the name Hulbæk.

Holbaek have traffic connections to Copenhagen and
Roskilde by highway and railway, and much of the city's working-employed outside the municipality. The city's surrounding area is primarily found in Odsherred, which also carries a railway, Odsherreds rail, with terminals in Holbaek and Nykoebing. Until the early 1960s, Holbæk length south of the railroad scarce, but the expansion of both residential and commercial has stretched the city of the southern fields. Since the 1980s, Holbaek has been one of the fastest growing cities in Denmark.

Holbaek city center is located in the area between the port and the railway station. The city's shopping streets are still the medieval street plan, which consists of
Square, Ahlgade and Smedelundsgade, which is the main shopping streets.
Ahlgade was for many years one of the widest streets, some provincial town could
show. The square is one of Denmark's most comprehensive and could be called a
street square.
In Kirkestræde is St.. Nicholas Church from 1872
significant remains of medieval Blackfriars Monastery from 1270 Holbaek

St.. Nikolaj Church was built 1869-72 to
replace the demolished Palace Chapel. The style is Romanesque.
The altarpiece was painted in 1873 by Carl Bloch and depicts Christ with
the child.
The Museum of Holbaek and Environs is located in the old half-timbered buildings in Klosterstræde. The buildings were founded in 1910
Dragsholm
Castle Built in the Middle Ages as the Bishop of Roskilde castle. Portions of the
medieval buildings have been preserved in the south wing. In the 1690s was
Dragsholm Castle rebuilt in Baroque style. During and after the Reformation was
building used as a state prison. The most famous prisoner was the Earl of
Bothwell, who was imprisoned here for three years. He died during his captivity,
and is buried in Faarevejle Church.
One
Denmark's renowned men, Chancellor Arild Huitfeldt (1541-1609), wrote
Denmark's second major history of Denmark, the book of Denmark Chronicle on
Dragsholm Castle. Today driven Dragsholm as one of the renowned and reputable
manor house hotels.
Løvenborg is a tri-fold
Renaissance chateau built in the early 1600s. The first castle on

Tveje Merløse church
is one of Denmark's oldest village churches. It was built in the early
1100s of the White family. The ship was built in boulders and tower
travertine. The church contains frescos from the 1100s and altarpiece of
Joakim Skovgaard.
White genus was one of
Denmark's big men genera in the Middle Ages. They had headquarters in
Fjenneslev in Central Zealand, and built many churches, including Tveje Merløse
and Fanefjord on Mon.
Parish Churches all stem
from the Romanesque period, and most are built of boulders; churches
in Hagested, Hørby and Udby however travertine. There are Roman murals
in Tveje Merløse and Hagested and late Gothic from Isefiord Workshop in
Sonder Asmindrup and Tuse; finally found frescoes from 1510-20 in
Ågerup Church.
Holbaek Slots Ladegård go back
to the early Middle Ages, when it belonged to the crown. In 1661, the farm was
sold to Henry Thott and 1753-1809 amounted to an entailed estate with
Erik Holm and Hagested Farm.
Culture and History
municipality retains 15 dolmens and about 70 burial mounds. In the reorganization and enlargement
of agriculture in 1900 was over 200 ancient monuments demolished.
As
in other coastal areas of Denmark has found discovered from
Ertebølleruten culture. During excavations in the land of the Holbaek Slots
