Dragsholm Castle in southern Odsherred is from the 1500s and is located at the foot of Vejrhøj. Before reclamation of the Lammefjord in 1875 was the castle strategically located on the narrow strip of land that separated Odsherred from the remaining Zealand. From here they had a view of the Sejerøbugten on one side and the fjord on the other, and be able to control traffic to and from the district.

Here ended the noble Scottish Earl of Bothwell - James Hepburn - his days in the dungeon at the bottom of one of the castle towers after having fallen foul of both England and Scotland. He was accused of the murder of the Scottish queen Marie Stuart´s husband Lord Darnley in 1567 and had subsequently married her under so much commotion that she had to abdicate the Scottish throne.

Earl fled even to Norway, where he was arrested for breach of a previous marriage promise to the Norwegian noblewoman Anna Rustung. Later he was taken to Dragsholm Castle as a state prisoner, where he ended his days insane after five years of captivity in the 1578th

For several years they had to honor the visitors furnished dungeon with straw bed and wooden table, as it had to have looked at the Earl's time. He himself was represented by a wooden figure with a frantic look on his face that made ​​an impression on every visitor child. This can now be seen in Dragsholm Church along the original coffin.

After his death he was buried in the floor of Faarevejle Church, where a mummified corpse since 1858 has been regarded as his. For many years roamed there a rumor in the neighborhood that a young girl should have been buried inside the wall alive in one of the castle's thick walls. And until a few years ago, when the castle was to be renovated, it was just a stupendous urban legend. When the workmen broke the stones out of one of the castle walls, however, came a skeleton appeared in a cavity.

The girl who was to be called Celestine morning star and daughter of a feudal lord, was pregnant with a groom in his condition, and the family was consequently losing its status. The father should have kept going-away party for his daughter at the castle when they would officially send her on a trip to Flensburg. Instead, she was drugged and buried alive in the castle wall.

One can see things for themselves in one of the palace corridors, because that is put glass in front of the skeleton resting place in the wall cavity, and overnight guests are occasionally encountered her ghost.

Indigenous Peoples and the old days
