At Viking castle near Slagelse you can experience one of the most valuable and important monuments from the Viking Age, Viking fortress Trelleborg. 

The beautiful royal Viking castle was built in 980 during the mighty King Harald Bluetooth's reign, and is the best preserved of its kind. You can also see and experience the unique Viking shield, which is Denmark's only preserved Viking shield.

There are at regular opening days free admission to the museum and the Viking area. Note In the Viking Festival in week 29 charged an entrance fee. Trelleborg has closed all Mondays, with the exception of 25 April, 13 June, 18 July and 17 October.
